Apartment Review for Sycamore Square Apartments - Dayton, OH

I've been here almost a year and I'm still on the fence about signing a new lease when the current one expires. The main plus is the area. I feel safe here for the most part. I am not afraid to take my dog outside at night. The grounds are very pretty and the office staff is friendly. Parking is not so great. Sometimes we'd have to park at the opposite end of the complex. They recently switched from gas heat to electric, so now residents have to pay for heat. They got the cheapest floor board heaters they could find. Even when it's turned all the way up, it's still cold. It's also VERY expensive, so we'd end up just wrapping up in blankets and leaving the heat off or turned down very low. The maintenance crew did not clean up after being in the apartment, so we try not to call them very often. Residents do NOT clean up after their dogs. Several will let them out and not even pay attention to them. The bathroom is not vented at all, so the mold and mildew grow faster than we can clean it. There was even mold grow in the windows in both bedrooms. And even after cleaning every day, it still keeps coming back. They make you sign an agreement saying you will keep mold and mildew clean or you won't get your deposit back. Well, easier said than done... The walls are VERY thin... especially with neighbors who fight all the time and play loud music at midnight. The price is a bit high for the amount of space. We thought they may lower rent now that they aren't paying for heat, but since they didn't, we've been a bit turned off and are trying to find a cheaper place to live that is still in a decent neighborhood. We'll see how that goes.
